In the current threat environment, the value of IoT technology is clear. Through secure IoT channels, the Air Force could gather, share, and analyze data, solving three critical problems: providing additional security over logistics operations, monitoring the condition of equipment, and managing the tens of thousands of vehicles the Air Force overseas. Particle provides a unified solution for all three challenges. The risks are also clear. Air Force logistics are now being done in heightened threat conditions. The recent spate of cyber attacks on critical U.S. infrastructure and defense systems, including hacks that effectively shut down the Colonial Pipeline and the SolarWinds company, emphasize the need to ensure security in cyber systems first, before deployment. Particle provides an edge-to-cloud IoT platform, enabling the Air Force user to track and monitor the condition of fleets and equipment. Its devices allow for unprecedented user friendliness, with easy installation of sensors during the manufacturing of equipment, integrating hardware and software into a unified solution. Particle provides all of these capabilities with best-in-class security features, including: SOC II Type 2 compliance, NIST based policies and procedures, SIEM (Security Incident and Event Management), Regular Penetration Tests with leading IoT Security partner, Full audit logs made available to customers, Security operations embedded in manufacturing operations. Under this proposal, Particle will conduct research into adapting its IoT solutions to meet Air Force use cases, and present Air Force users with a menu of security functionalities featured on its IoT platforms. Particle will gain feedback from customer interviews, and based on the insight gained, adapt Particle’s solutions and security features to adapt for defense protocols and Air Force requirements.
