TimeLike™ is a component-based software technology designed to support “model-based everything”: general purpose modeling and simulation, full-lifecycle model-based engineering, model-based decision support, and model-based decision-making for autonomous systems. TimeLike offers unmatched support for the design, development, operations and sustainment of large-scale heterogeneous systems and systems-of-systems, including software-intensive distributed cyber-physical systems, systems involving effects and interactions that cut across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines, and systems that involve human decision-makers in the loop, e.g. multi-domain operations and “digital acquisition”. TimeLike would be well-suited for use as part of the Integrated Digital Environment required to support the Air Force’s Digital Transformation. We propose to develop TimeLike to maximize its usefulness for this purpose. The proposed effort is directly relevant to at least one of the five key Strategic Capabilities identified in the most recent USAF S&T Strategy document, “Rapid, Effective Decision-Making”, and also has significant relevance, as an enabling technology, to at least two others: “Resilient Information Sharing” and “Complexity, Unpredictability, and Mass”.

We are developing a revolutionary enabling technology for Digital Transformation. This technology, called TimeLike™, is a first-of-its-kind component-based software platform designed to support what we call “model-based everything”, or MBX: Completely general-purpose modeling and simulation (M&S) Full-lifecycle model-based engineering (MBE), development, and operations (DevOps) Model-based decision support (MBDS) for human decision-makers Model-based decision-making (MBDM) for autonomous systems TimeLike offers a number of important advantages over competing technologies; these include: A unique two-layer component architecture, designed to support both “programming-in-the-large”, and “programming-in-the-small” A fully “open” and extensible architecture. All of TimeLike’s capabilities can be easily accessed, either via a command-based API, or via a user-friendly visual programming environment, the TimeLike Visual Editor, shown below. Multi-language software development and integration Software-in-the-loop modeling of cyber-physical systems On-the-fly auto-generation of predictive digital twins for cyber-physical systems. TimeLike’s unique capabilities are equally applicable across all the many domains where digital transformation is underway; this includes non-Defense commercial applications, such as Smart Manufacturing/Industry 4.0, Smart Cities, Smart Networks, etc., and also Defense applications, providing critical enabling capabilities needed to complete the digital transformation of the Air Force, the Space Force, and the US military as a whole.
