There is a national defense need to modernize and add new tactical communication capabilities. Currently special warfare personnel have limited communication range and radio transmissions can be received by unintended targets. Communication range is determined by the effectiveness of the antennas used by the tactical radio. Such systems tend to use omnidirectional antennas that emanate energy in all directions reducing the range to the receiver. In addition, the omnidirectional emanated energy can be received by unwanted entities. Notch’s solution would be compatible with currently fielded systems on the A/N-PRC-152A radio systems and the goal would be to make it compatible with the Android Tactical Assault Kit, to bring this enhanced capability and use across all platforms of man packable radio communications. Integrating Notch’s metasurface technology on tactical antennas will enable special warfare personnel to greatly increase survivability and lethality down ran
