Spotlight Labs proposes to utilize its existing, off-the-shelf SPYDR device to collect human biometric data while engaged in aviation activities. The device utilizes 4 sensors to quantify aircraft performance and human biometric reaction. Utilizing this device and company developed algorithms, Spotlight Labs has quantified pilot fatigue and stress levels by showing a 15-45% degradation in pilot performance and increasing stress when flying more than one flight in a single day. Further, Spotlight Labs has quantified the increase in stress and decrease in performance with short and long layoffs from flying. Spotlight Labs has conducted preliminary validation of these data using a cognitive testing package. Spotlight Labs proposes to utilize this Phase 1 in order to demonstrate how SPYDR can measure fatigue and human degradation, by designing a series of tests to compare physical stressors, such as physical exertions, high task load and oxygen deprivation to expand the limited cognitive testing already conducted.
