USAF Satellites currently cannot be upgraded or repaired in orbit. Todayââ¬â¢s repairs are limited to ground provided software or procedural fixes. Manned mission repairs are too costly and limited to altitudes near the International Space Station. Robotic hands in space are needed to service satellites at a cost considerably below the cost of replacing them. Satellite Services, Inc. (SSI) is currently developing the capability to launch specialized low-cost, small Robotic Service Vehicles (RSVs) to rendezvous with USAF/Government satellites to refuel, repair and/or upgrade them to extend mission life and/or their capability. This SBIR program will provide for the development of a dual-use tool set for USAF unique mission requirements and commercial missi
