The team of Plasmonics Inc and The John Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab (JHU/APL) proposes to develop a NMBS optical system for the USAF utilizing metamaterial surfaces or metasurfaces to enable a conformal system solution that possesses low cost, size, weight, and power (c-SWaP) relative to gimbal-mount system architectures. Metamaterials are a class of engineered materials where arrays of sub-wavelength resonant elements are integrated within a surface or volume to impress a desired spectral, directional, or polarization response. In effect, the surfaces can be used to create surfaces with optical properties not possible with conventional bulk materials or composites. Metasurfaces also enable the development of extremely thin spectral tailoring (Metamaterial, beamsteering,Tunable
