Phase I Amount
$42,000
The objective of this AF191-005 SBIR project is to demonstrate the technical feasibility and commercial fit of Swarms satellite network and ground hardware in order to provide space communications that enablea rapidly mobile, resilient, and connected Air Force. Swarms global communications network can provide coverage at any location on Earth and is orders of magnitude lower cost relative to existing operators. Swarms low-mass and low-power ground devices address the current problem that USAF operators face in deploying optimal, covert, and constantly connected global communications infrastructure. The long term goal of this effort is to modify Swarms non-defense products to suit the immediate needs of Air Force stakeholders. Swarm will utilize in-depth customer discovery, customer requirements, rapid prototyping, and benchmark testing to validate product-market fit and highlight the benefits driven to end customers.Satellite communications,Global network,Connected Devices,Rapid Capabilities,Special Operations,Space and Missile Systems Center,C3,Air Force Space Command

Phase II

Contract Number: FA8649-19-C-A010
Start Date: 8/8/2019    Completed: 8/8/2021
Phase II year
2019
Phase II Amount
$6,750,000
The objective of this Air Force SBIR Phase II project is to meet the national defense-related mission needs of the Air Force in the area of Low Earth Orbit communications and command & control. More specifically, there is a clear Air Force need for SATCOM redundancy and resiliency (Need #6266), that Swarm is uniquely equipped to develop and provide through modification of commercial satellite hardware and technology, with full integration into the SPACE Combat Cloud Architecture. Swarm proposes to take TRL 9 flight hardware, developed for commercial purposes, and equip these new satellite designs for use of MILSATCOM frequencies, and perform testing that validates performance for a potential private network.
