Allcomp had developed a novel CVD deposited coating for carbon-carbon applications that has shown promising test results to meet extreme high heat flux applications. The Allcomp coating system consists of metal carbide layers that are designed to provide oxidation protection for the underlying carbon-carbon substrate at temperatures in excess of 2000° C. The proposed research program is to understand processing controls to produce repeatable coatings and to fundamentally understand the physical properties of the coatings that are prepared both prior to and after high heat flux exposures. Expansion to the current coating process is proposed to address improved yields
