MIS is a global leader in manufacturing technologies for harsh environments. MIS developed, owns and operates a commercial Additive Manufacturing Facility (AMF) aboard the International Space Station (ISS), for both government and commercial use. Over multiple years of operation, MIS developed quality processes that ensure successful printing in AMF aboard the ISS. These processes include ground testing, computer modeling, and simulations of the final product to optimize manufacturing on orbit. These quality processes are key to the successful operation of additive manufacturing devices both terrestrially and in space. Recent awards from the Defense Logistics Agency (Aul) and NASA (Amaru) for creating pre-manufacturing and in-situ manufacturing Validation & Verification (V&V) processes are standalone and complementary. MIS proposes the third piece in the quality cycle with Horizon, a post-manufacturing statistical analysis hardware/ software suite completing an end-to-end process that reduces lead time, increases statistical confidence and verifies the accuracy of additive manufacturing equipment for aerospace applications. Horizon is a V&V suite utilizing a combination of hardware and software testing techniques and verification methods to generate a plethora of data metrics. Horizon algorithms use these metrics to identify cost- and time-effective methods for calculating statistical relevance for printed components.
