Antenna testing efficiency continues to suffer from two ongoing issues: excessive test time and test system obsolescence. In other words, antenna testing takes a long time to acquire the required multi-dimensional data sets and interdependent antenna measurement system design makes upgrades expensive and disruptive.GTI will evaluate three Air Force antenna test facilities to determine how to best apply their latest simultaneous measurements technology concepts to reduce test times by an order of magnitude or more. GTI will then apply their rigorous systems engineering process to turn these technologies into a robust, modular and extensible antenna test system design that will increase the capability, capacity, reliability and sustainability for these Air Force antenna ranges. GTIs modular design approach using robust interfaces will enable future range upgrades with minimal disruption. Key aspects of this transformational test system technology will be demonstrated.;
Benefit: This research will advance the state of the art in antenna test by developing a system to define modular and extensible antenna test facilities in terms of interfaces and functionality, and to advance simultaneous measurements technology. These concepts can be applied to systematically update other government and commercial antenna test ranges. Alternate markets for the developed technologies include satellite ground stations.
