Softronics Ltd. proposes to implement an advanced VLF receiver front end utilizing a trio of advanced technologies. The first is a digital cancellation DSP technique that reduces both atmospheric noise and jamming signals within the desired passband, significantly improving the SNR of the VLF signal. The second is a unique component technology and topology that offers extraordinary VLF preselection selectivity, on the order of 1.6 KHz bandwidth at -100 db response with a 1.2 KHz bandwidth at -3 db. The third technology is an unusual application of a unique consumer component to provide digitization of VLF signals with orders of magnitude more dynamic range than conventional analog-to-digital converters available today. All of these techniques are combined into a candidate modular front end architecture optimized for the airborne VLF environment, and designed by technical staff with a long history in VLF design and operation.

Benefit:
This system is designed solely for VLF narrowband use. It has direct applicability to other DoD users as well as international VLF users, given export approval. This effort will result in a significant manufacturing opportunity for Softronics Ltd.
