Sion Power is developing rechargeable Li-S battery with specific energy exceeding 400Wh/kg, extended cycle life and improved safety. Performance improvements will be based upon developing unique electrolyte providing two liquid phases having Li ion conductivity, self-partitioning and immiscibility, serving separately the cathode and anode sides. Separated liquid phases will be optimal for cathode and anode functioning. To avoid spontaneous phase mixing and interference, the anode liquid phase will be immobilized as a gel on the Li surface.
