The Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center has expressed interest in developing a system for automating the analysis of digital X-ray images. The purpose of this system is to reduce labor and interpretation errors in the evaluation of aircraft wear patterns, cracks, corrosion trending and growth, and other system/material damages affecting flight safety. Image Tech has expertise in this area of processing digital X-ray images and is proposing a system called "Rapid Analysis and Decision support system for Digital Images of X-rays" (RADDIX), addresses all of the issues outlined above. It would also provide trend analysis and simplify the decision making process. RADDIX is carefully tailored image processing and presentation software constructed from optimized state-of-the-art algorithms. It will minimize the overall computation time and ensures robustness of the system to variations between images. Phase 1 research will be concentrated on the key issue of demonstrating feasibility of the automated image analysis in spite of these variations. For this Image Tech has chosen to work on "corrosion". In this research the extent of corrosion, trending and decision analysis capabilities will be investigated. During Phase 1, Image Tech will investigate research needed in Phase 11 and investigate commercialization potential.
