The Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Jet (APPJr) technology invented at Los Alamos National Laboratory and exclusively licensed to APJeT, Inc., is a revolutionary platform technology enabling economic application of atmospheric pressure plasma technology in an array of applications. APPJr is a non-thermal, stable, uniform discharge having 50-1000 times greater power density than other atmospheric plasmas such as coronas and atmospheric pressure glow discharges. In Phase I, we demonstrated the feasibility for suface modification and thin film process methods using the APPJ technology. In Phase II, these capabilities are extended and optimized for a variety of material processing applications ranging from films deposited on composite materials to flight suits. The deliverables from this work will be apparatus and process methods applicable to treatment of both rigid and flexible large area substrates with improved environmental quality, reduced cost of manufacturing and development of new manufacturing methods.
