Amerinex Applied Imaging, Inc. proposes to develop techniques for the super-resolution of imagery obtained from a moving sensor. The research will focus on identifying approaches to the recovery of image detail to resolutions beyond the specific Nyquist and Rayleigh limits associated with a particular imaging system. These approaches will be applicable to a variety of imaging, and will not rely on assumptions about the nature or content of the scene being imaged.This effort will focus on identifying the role of motion in providing extra information to assist in the creation of super-resolution image data. We will initially perform a theoretical investigation of the information which can be extracted from apparent motion of the scene in a diffraction limited imaging situation. Given the results of this theoretical investigation, we will decide whether the added information content provided by motion can best be used to improve the performance of existing super-resolution approaches, or if the best approach involves the development of entirely new techniques. A complementary effort will develop novel motion based techniques to enhance image resolutions limited by sensor sampling restrictions. Findings from both of these studies will be integrated to form a single unified approach to super-resolution based on sensor motion
