The applicant firm proposes to use their unique and patented powder metallurgy technology to produce FACT parts with increased reliability and reduced weight, and at lower cost than other methods. It will use new and innovative power metallurgy equipment and methods that can be automated to give fast and efficient consolidation of high strength alloy powers to final product forms. It will also provide products with full densities and forged properties while eliminating costly cutting, working, forming and machining. For Phase I, a 1000 ton press, together with a special high temperature inert atmosphere furnace and tooling will be used to make prototype FACTS parts up to 5" diameter by 5" long.
