With the expansion of space operations during recent years, the systems which control spacecraft have become equally expansive and complex. Each new spacecraft has unique approaches to control and operations, utilizing different and sometimes non-intuitive human interfaces. The loss of highly trained satellite control personnel and the large time investment required to replace them suggests an opportunity to evaluate integrating technologies which can provide a framework for future expansion which preserves the continuity of standardization of satellite control. Additionally, use of advanced technologies in visualization, through the use of multi-media concepts could greatly enhance the effectiveness of space controllers and improve overall space control system performance. The proposed project will develop a system for multimedia based, intuitive control of satellites that will allow a single generic interface to be capable of controlling many different satellites. The specifics of the human interface necessary for control of any given satellite will conform to general guidelines to provide a standardized look and feel to the operator while also incorporating a variety of auxiliary functions designed to enhance operator capabilities and performance.
