The Interactive Sound Information System (ISIS) developed by the proposer has demonstrated effectiveness as a means of presenting information about noise management issues to decision makers. This project would create a prototype for a substantial upgrade of the current system; improving quality and usability of the system. It would incorporate animation and video capabilities needed to describe three dimensional problems such as are involved in flight operations. The user interface would be improved making it more graphical and intuitive. Surveys of existing and future user groups would assist in pinpointing needs and opportunities. The project builds from existing ISIS t echniques, adding off-the-shelf multimedia components. The work objective summarizes to "better presentations" with "less presenter effort".

Benefits:
The system can improve decision making concerning noise management issues. Costly changes in operations or inappropriate location decisions might be avoided. Other DOD units with noise management programs will benefit. The improved system would be usable in community planning decisions in the US and in other countires. Use as a general tool for instruction in acoustics is a possibility.

This project substantially upgrades the ì current system; improving its quality and usability. It adds ì animation and video capabilities needed to describe three ì dimensional problems such as are involved in flight operations. ì Usability is improved, by making it more graphical and intuitive. ì The program design responds to needs and opportunities identified ì through surveys of existing and future user groups. The project ì builds from existing ISIS techniques, adding off-the-shelf ì components. The project is structured to serve the programmatic needs of the AF ì for staff training and community information. A complementary ì component of the work develops similar technologies for use by the ì Federal Aviation Administration. A parallel development program ì involves a sharing of resources as well as the design of ì individualized features serving the separate needs of the USAF and ì FAA.
