An investigation of an innovative self-compensating seal utilizing anunique geometry. The study will develop a mathematical model using the finite element method and classical physics methods where appropriate. These methods will be used to analyze and verify the seal concepts. The investigation will include material and wear studies to find appropriate materials for the severe environment of an advanced technology turbine engine. The ultimate goal of the study is the design of aprototype seal.
