Phase I

Contract Number: 04680
Start Date: 00/00/00    Completed: 00/00/00
Phase I year
1984
Phase I Amount
$67,265
Development of a readout system for microchannel plates or other imaging detectors for use with multiangular electrostatic analyzer. This film discrete anode arrays will be deposited on ceramic Substrates incorporating a minimum of 128 elements. Encoding electronics as well as hybridized charge sensitive preamplifier discriminators will mate with the anodes. The system will be compatible with space flight requirements of high reliability, compactness and low power dissipation.

Phase II

Contract Number: 04680
Start Date: 00/00/00    Completed: 00/00/00
Phase II year
1985
Phase II Amount
$448,275
Development of a prototype electrostatic analyzer (ESA) for satellite use capable of detecting electrons or ions with 128 degrees of pitch angle distribution. The instrument will be a 270 deg spherical ESA with one degree angular resolution. A discrete anode array system will be incorporated to read out the microchannel plate detector, with hybrid charge sensitive preamplifier/discriminators detecting the charge from the anodes. Compact encoding electronics and counters will accumulate the information to be processed by a microprocessor controlled data processing unit. Sweeping high voltage power supplies will be developed to step the energy selection ESA plates. Emphasis will be given in low power consumption, Light weight as well as the capability of the sensor to be operative in high radiation environments.
