In January 2014, Accelrys was acquired by 3D software vendor Dassault Systèmes (France). Previously doing business as Biosym Technologies, in June 1992, BioSym had originally been acquired by Corning and operated as a wholly owned subsidiary. In August 1995, Biosym Technologies, Inc. was then acquired by Accelrys Inc. a Scientific Informatics software and services company for life sciences, chemical and materials R&D enabling customers to both accelerate their research process to more rapidly discover new therapeutics, materials and compounds; and to introduce new efficiencies into the process that drive lower costs. In February 2004, Accelrys went public with stock sysmbol Nasdaq: ACCL. The firm then went on to make a number of acquisitions raising the total employment of the firm to over 750 people
