In January 2010, Spectrum San Diego was acquired by SAIC. Spectrum San Diego is a research and development group specializing in the design of high-technology x-ray imaging systems, and other electronic instrumentation. SSDI was founded in June 1998 by Steven W. Smith, Ph.D., and currently consists of four senior engineers and scientists: Steve Smith (electrical engineer and physicist), Chris Terraneau (electrical engineer), Andy Berg (electrical engineer), and Eric Duff (consultant physicist). These four have worked together since 1991 as the research and development department of another company. All together, the technical staff at Spectrum San Diego has a total of more than 80 years experience in the x-ray and electronic instrumentation field. Spectrum San Diego also includes a full time office manager, Barbara Hatfield. Operations are conducted in a 3500 sq. ft. facility in Rancho Bernardo, California, about 20 miles northeast of downtown San Diego.
