Located in the UAMS Bioventures, an incubator facility established by the University of Arkansas, the company's core technology is an orthopedic device that greatly improves the hip replacement procedure. The device consists of a plunger and bowl mounted in a loading frame that is used to create an acetabular cup composite, made of compressed allograft bone and interdigitated cement, for use in patients with acetabular defects. In the novel method, bone chips are placed in the mold, pressure exerted to cause the chips to conform to the mold, additional chips are added to fill in any voids, pressure is again exerted, bone cement is added, and pressure again exerted until the cement hardens.
