A novel surface treatment technology is proposed to provide wear resistance to PMCs. Our technologies can economically modify the surface of PMC components into a wear resistant surface to effectively distribute thermal and mechanical stresses and provide erosion resistance to sand. Our surface technologies simplify design and reduce overall part count and mechanism weight. Our processes do not affect the bulk mechanical characteristics of the PMCs.
