The Army is developing a series of gliding parachute systems such as the PAGASYS and WSADS which rely on detailed wind prediction. The lack of availabilty of accurate wind profiling data results in significant uncertainty during final approach and air drop. Future systems will need to incorporate actual on-board real time sensors which provide actual real time wind measurement. The sensor developed by Optical Air Data Systems is an all fiber optic remote wind sensing device capable of being placed on board the air drop platform
