A new method of actuating MEMS devices is proposed for attitude-control of small-arms munitions. This method is compatible with existing foundry tooling and offers the potential of commutating relatively small forces into larger ones, capable of steering a high speed bullet. The method is not sensitive to high-G environments and reacts nearly instantaneously. Active-guidance of a prototype munition, which employs this new actuator, is discussed as a means to demonstrate reproducible movement. The concept is refined through a feasibility analysis, test plan and risk assessment in detail during Phase I in preparation for Phase II prototyping. Zero modifications are required of the weapon system used to demonstrate the smart munition
