In January 2017, it was announced that Bruker Corporation (NASDAQ: BRKR) - itself anSBIR involved firm - had acquired Hysitron. Hysitron supplies nanomechanical instruments for advanced research and industrial applications. The firm has developed and supplied instrumentation for surface analysis allows nanoscale measurements of mechanical properties such as hardness, elastic modulus, friction, wear resistance, and adhesive strength. The privately-held Hysitron® pioneered solutions to measure mechanical properties of materials at the nanoscale. Its nanoindentation products are used by premier academic and industrial researchers and engineers in materials science, the life sciences, and semiconductor applications. In addition to nanoindentation and microindentation, Hysitron's instrument capabilities include tribology, modulus mapping, dynamic mechanical analysis, and in-situ SEM (scanning electron) and TEM (transmission electron) nanomechanical testing.The firm's atomic force microscopy instrumentation will enable a number of valuable application synergies - added to Bruker NANO Group nanoscale surface and materials characterization product portfolio.
