Phoenix Science and Technology (PS&T) is working on development of unique, patented pulsed light and acoustic sources (sparkers) for applications to advanced water treatment, depainting, biofouling control, sonobuoys and submarine countermeasures, within the DoD and commercial markets. Application areas include lithotripsy, UV sterilization with pulsed lamps, control of zebra and quagga mussels, meat tenderization, among others, With the strategy of bringing these technologies to market through license and/or partnership with established players or prime system integrators. PS&T would support improvements, product development and further applications. The proprietary pulsed light and sound sources developed and patented by the firm is a pulsed Surface Discharge (SD) lamp with 80% higher UV efficiency and 10X greater light intensity than conventional pulsed lamps. The pulses from this mercury-free lamp are twice as effective as continuous UV, and minimize the generation of depaint debris. With prototype SD lamps available now, the company seeks partnering relationships and licensing agreements with established players within the advanced water treatment and the DoD depaint communities to complete product development and prove the technology for commercial application.
