Bay Materials proposes to develop a oral cavity resident MEM sesnor capable of continiously monitoring the hydration state of a soldier. This minature sensor is based on a newly MEM osmolality detector invented by researchers at Northern Arizona University. The sensor will respond selectively to saliva osmolality which will be correlated with the subjects hydration leve. State of hydration is a key parameter in personnel performance, endurance and health maintainance. This sensor will allow early detection and avoidance of personnel dehydratoin in adverse environmetns and operating conditions

A non invasive personnel physiological status monitor capable of sensing and communicating body hydration level, body temperature and cortisol levels. Device is based on piezoresistive microcantilever and responsive polymers.

Benefits:
Allows real time monitoring, analyis and feed back of soldier physiological status and has spin off applications in diagnostics, toxic chemical sensing and medical monitoring devices.
