In December 2008, StarSys became a wholly owned subsidiary of Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC). With this acquisition, SNC has formed an integrated space technologies area called SNC Space Systems (SS) with SpaceDev, MicroSat Systems (another subsidiary of SNC), and the other SNC space operations and capabilities. This new business area will provide advanced satellite systems, propulsion systems, space vehicle systems and a wide array of subsystems and components to defense, civil government, and corporate customers.With facilities in CO and in NC, Starsys is a wholly owned subsiduary of SpaceDev. Starsys has designed and produced innovative electromechanical subsystems and components for spacecraft. The firm's high performance standards are apparent in more than 2,500 successful mechanisms on over 250 spacecraft. Starsys supplied each Mars Rover with 25 mechanisms, which control almost every moving function on the popular vehicles. Starsys has earned a solid reputation for engineering, assembly, integration and testing of hardware, meeting the most stringent space flight requirements with exceptional value. Combining the full design-to-delivery capability of a prime contractor with the efficient operation of a small company, Starsys has the flexibility to provide robust, reliable and high-value solutions. SpaceDev, the company that supplied the Hybrid Rocket Propulsion Technology that propelled SpaceShipOne into suborbital space in October of 2004, merged with Starsys in February of 2006. Mark N.
