AFAB Technologies proposes an innovative, compact, lightweight, low-cost personal (individual) signaling system (ISS) including both passive and active devices that provide visual daylight and nighttime distress notification, visual signaling, all-weather radar position detection, one-wave audible signaling,, and two-way VHS radio communications. The system will enhance the detectability of distressed persons in any marine environment and can be easily incorporated into a personal flotation device, attached to a life jacket, worn on a belt, or stuffed into a pocket. The system will facilitate detection by land or sea-based search and rescue efforts from moderate ranges (greater than 10 miles) in nearly every sea and weather conditions. Detectability improvements will be afforded by search is using visual, night-vision or radar Anticipated results and potential commercial application of results: In Phase 1, AFAB Technologies will designed the ISS, fabricated a prototype, conducts detailed component testing, and conduct a proof-of-concept sea-trial to demonstration. Commercial applications include a low-cost devotion for cruise ships, merchant Marine, and airlines, and higher-end versions for recreational boaters, fishermen and survival kits. This size, weight and cost allow them to be easily incorporated into the PFD or sold separately.
