In September of 2002, Mission Medical Inc was acquired by Japanese firm Terumo Corporation, Formerly known as Microsome and as Rasor Associates, Inc. since 1997, Mission Medical develops medical devices emphasizing innovative products having major functional and cost advantages. The company has a history of successful medical device development dating to 1971 when Rasor Associates was founded. The areas of expertise range from blood and fluid pumping and processing systems used in circulatory support, intraoperative autotransfusion, frozen blood deglycerolization, red cell and blood component separation, blood oxygenation, and chest drainage to specialized biomaterials used in contact lenses and injectable microbubbles for enhanced ultrasonic imaging. The firm use their echnological capabilities to develop devices under contract to medical device manufacturers, meeting their requirements and specifications. Proprietary devices are also developed in-house in-house, demonstrate their characteristics and advantages with product prototypes, and negotiate commercialization agreements with medical device companies to manufacture and/or market the products. Often the product is licensed, the proprietary technology is sold, or a joint venture or spin-off company is formed. Several such agreements have been made. Rasor Associates will also manufacture products which are within our manufacturing capabilities and interests. Rasor Associates has a modern and well-equipped product development and testing facility. Clinicians from local medical centers are utilized in defining, evaluating and testing our devices. Consultants and subcontractors, with whom we have had several years of experience, supplement our staff. We are experienced in developing devices and systems to achieve regulatory approvals and are following ISO 9001 guidelines for product development. Rasor Associates was founded in 1971 by Dr. Ned Rasor. The staff is led by Dr.Hank Rugge, President and CEO, and Dr. Tom Robinson, Vice-President.
