WPL Laboratories Inc. (WPL) proposes to develop a Model Based Synthesis Environment (MBSE) capable of supporting system synthesis via software components automatically from a domain model. This model describes the structure, content and connections that define the domain and the resources (e.g. COTS components) available for producing systems in the domain. Model representation will be accomplished using the OpenRLF toolset produced with DARPA/STARS program support. From a model, a language generation component within the MBSE will produce a domain specific language suitable for defining systems in the domain. Another tool in MBSE will produce a world wide web interactive application that can be used to specify systems over the web. To verify the practicality of the model based synthesis approach, a proof-of-concept MBSE will be produced for the domain of web site generation. MBSE will attempt to equal the web site production capabilities of a handwritten system called SemWeb that is being constructed by WPL with DISA support. The main goal of the MBSE Phase I effort will be to show the utility of a model-based approach and to plan the production of a full-featured version during Phase II SBIR.
