Liberty Technologies, Inc., Imaging Systems Division has developed a total, integrated, PC-based system of digital radiography called RADView. This systems provides a) digital image and data management, b) film digitization which converts existing film and associated records to a digital format, and c) filmless radiography which uses phosphor technology in place of conventional film. Liberty Technologies will use a film digitization system and prototype phosphor system that were developed for the utility and petrochemical industries to demonstrate the available technology, and then to define what an integrated system of digital radiography for the Air Force would look like. The objectives of the proposed Phase I effort include 1) demonstration of available technology and identification of weaknesses, 2) definition of an Air Force suitable system and the effort required to develop/produce such a system, and 3) development of an economic justification of filmless radiography. Liberty Technologies will transport a system to several airbases where it will be evaluated in both the operational and depot environments. This evaluation will examine database management, film scanning, image analysis, and phosphor screen sizes/digitization/erasure. An economic justification for filmless radiography will be developed through a survey of Air Force laboratories, depots, and operational units.
