Visidyne proposes to design and develop a prototype rendering system for the visualization of stochastic cloud images for use in Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) applications. Using numerical integrals for 3-dimensional or volumetric cloud properties the system will determine the radiometric and stochastic characteristics of the images and then generate 2-dimensional realizations. In Phase I Visidyne will demonstrate this approach by producing scenes in the visible and IR using volumetric properties from a simplified cloud model. In Phase II Visidyne will extend the prototype system for operational use.

Phase II

Contract Number: F19628-95-C-0217
Start Date: 8/30/1995    Completed: 12/20/1997
Phase II year
1995
Phase II Amount

The Visidyne team proposes to commercialize code under the name CLOUDSCAPE (TM) for the radiometrically accurate visualization of stochastic cloud images. The Phase I prototype demonstrated the coupling of numerical integrals of 3-dimensional, volumetric cloud properties with tables of surface scattering and emitting characteristics to generate 2-dimensional realizations of cloud images in the visible and infrared wavelength regions. Paradigm Simulations Inc. has expressed the hope to enter into a reseller arrangement to market CLOUDSCAPE as a module in their successful VEGA line of products for building interactive real-time 3-D visual simulation, virtual reality, and general visualization applications.
