An innovative design for a control valve is proposed utilizing an electrorheological fluid as the working medium. Optimization of the fluid properties, including testing, is to be performed, particularly for application to an aircraft environment. A prototype valve is to be provided and tested in the operating condition to demonstrate the anticipated improvements in simplicity of design, reduced size, improved response time and low cost compared to conventional hydraulic valves.
