This Phase II Small Business Innovation Research project w 11 continue the development of the equipment necessary to provide Enhanced 9-1-1 emergency service to rural communities. The Phase I project successfully demonstrated the technical feasibility of the proposal by significantly modifying the existing patented Status Recognition Unit (SRU) to perform the tandem functions on a local basis for rural communities and to design and develop an Automatic Location Identification (ALI*) module and transceiver necessary to identify rural subscribers with geographically based information. The Telident 911 STS (an existing product) will also be incorporated into the rural system. The Phase II project will complete the modification of the SRU product and complete development of the ALI* product and transceiver. In addition, a test site will be selected and, with a rural telephone company, preparations for beta site testing will be done.Applications:If this project successfully carries through Phase II, a cost effective E9-1-1 local tandem will be developed, manufactured, and marketed throughout the rural communities of the United States, significantly benefiting: residents of rural communities, rural telephone companies, and public emergency respondents in rural areas.
