The goal of this project is to design and implement a regional cancer registry coordination center capable of accessing data from local, institutional, and hospital registries of four states: North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia, as well as the SEER and NCI databases. The specific goals of Phase I are: (1) to compile a comprehensive listing of Federal, state, local, and private cancer registries in the mentioned four states; (2) to provide documented permission to access at least four of these sources in each state along with access procedures and record format data; (3) to provide evidence that a computerized record format conversion utility successfully restructures a group of approximately 50 sample cohort records to the format of one of the accessible sources; and (4) to provide a detailed explanation of how linkage of the records would be achieved and the necessary data extracted.
Anticipated Results:This registry will make available to researchers detailed cancer incidence data collected from four states in the Southeast. Takima International Corporation will be able to consult with and assist special study groups to identify cancer risk factors or cancer cases of particular types, and will also be able to provide hospitals or researchers with assistance concerning the statistical and epidemiological analysis of any dataset in the registry.National Cancer Institute
