NovoMarks technology, which is covered by two patents, is based on modifications of representational difference analysis (RDA). NovoMarks novel pooling strategy enables the isolation of a targeted region of the genome that is common to all of a large number of different lines while eliminating any background noise. The technology allows for specific regions of the plant genome to be saturated with markers more efficiently and more effectively than with other widely-used methods such as RFLPs, RAPDS, SSRs and AFLPs. Indeed research using these latter four techniques has so far failed to produce relevant markers that can be used commercially to predict somaclonal variation, while NovoMark technology has been successful
