A phase i program is proposed to methodically examine and organize battlefield meteorological data and information in support of army mission areas. A knowledge engineering procedure is discussed that will first identify key available battlefield meteorological resources and secondly develop an expert system architecture. Implementation and evaluation of the expert system will also be undertaken. The expert system will be necessarily limited in phase i to "w one army mission area. The advantages of such an effort will be to provide guidance for dod meteorologists in the preparation of tactical weather intelligence. Phase ii efforts will center around developing other modularized battlefield meteorological expert systems and providing a menu-driven overall processing system.
