Researchers are developing and organizing hands on science education with exciting, up-to-date scientific experiments. Educational equipment and guide manuals for related experiments are being developed. Rental for the period the experiments are used allows the same equipment to be used by a large number of schools, who share the cost. Each package consists of experiments the students do themselves and a more advanced demonstration. Consultants go into the schools to train the teachers in the use of the equipment and handouts. The teachers work with the students and a hot-line for emergency questions is being provided. A set of sound and laser experiment/demonstrations and associated guide materials are being developed. Working with teachers in middle schools is being tested. The potential commercial application as described by the awardee: Research will provide a new mechanism for providing upto-date scientific equipment and consultants to schools. Rental fees from the schools support part of the effort and the schools benefit by sharing the costs.
