The gel employs a low cost, automated, reliable, visual indication of an undesirable exposure to a predetermined stimulus over a certain time frame. The gel could be attached to perishables such as vaccines or meat products to indicate changes in temperature that might be undesirable for sensitive materials. The types of stimulus inducing a transition phase within the device include temperature, humidity, radiation, visible light, solvent composition, pH, ionic strength, etc. Prasidiux, LLC has licensed this stimulus indicating device.
