Public Profile

Envirofit International LLC is the for-profit arm of Envirofit International - a nonprofit project in part funded by the Shell Foundation that develops technology that reduces pollution and enhances energy efficiency in developing countries, particularly in Asia. Envirofit’s enterprise-based model represents a new, more sustainable approach to tackling the global IAP and energy dependence while yielding health, environmental and economic improvements in emerging markets - relying on market mechanisms to guide product development and drive consumer demand. Half of the world’s population cooks their daily meals by burning biomass fuel (wood, animal dung or agricultural waste) over open fires or rudimentary, inefficient stoves, releasing high levels of toxic emissions into people's homes. Emissions from these traditional cooking methods kills 1 person every 8 seconds, causing more than 4 million deaths a year. Women and children, who often work at home around the fire, are at the greatest risk of exposure and account for 85% of the deaths due to indoor air pollution. ith over 600,000 clean technology cookstoves sold, Envirofit’s enterprise-based model represents a new, more sustainable approach to tackling the global IAP/cookstoves problem – relying on market mechanisms to guide product development and drive consumer demand. Over 600,000 stoves sold, allowing over 2.5 million people to breathe easier, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 6.25 million tons, saving almost 16.5 million tree and saving our customers over $32.5 million USD in reduced fue
