In response to Navy SBIR solicitation topic N231-046 BlackBox Energy Systems proposes to investigate the capabilities of novel stator design axial flux BLDC motors for use in undersea unmanned vehicles. The Nautical Electric Motor (NEMo) will be highly efficient, lightweight cost effective and capable of operation in open seas up to 2000m depth. The NEMo will be capable of 5000rpm and up to 7Nm of torque with an integrated controller for ease of vehicle integration.
Benefit: The NEMo, a TruVoltTM Motor by BlackBox Energy Systems is a BLDC Axial Flux motor that can run at up to 98% efficiency. Induction AC motors have historically dominated the commercial market, but this is changing. With an increasing emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency, industry is moving toward adopting new technologies that provide the same reliable power but lower the impact on the environment. TruVolt motors can take in power from any source, including AC, DC, Battery, Solar, etc. They are also used as power generation devices if connected to a suitable engine. Application, where Efficiency, Weight, Size, and Cost are essential characteristics of a small motor, can be served by our technology. Some applications suited for these motors are appliance motors, HVAC systems, industrial machinery, generators, range extenders, turbo generators, and Auxiliary Power Units (APUs).
