This project will result in a new supplier for a specific azimuth telescope that is a critical component in existing Department of Defense systems. Currently, there is no existing supplier for the azimuth telescope and there is no technical or engineering information available for the azimuth telescope that could be used by a new supplier to begin manufacturing the azimuth telescope. To address this need, this project will acquire an existing azimuth telescope of the specific type used by the Department of Defense and then reverse engineer all elements of the telescope including all optical and mechanical elements as well as any electrical, sensor, and/or software elements that are present in the system. Once the reverse engineering work is completed, a Technical Data Package will be assembled that contains all technical and engineering information needed to create a manufacturing plan for the azimuth telescope. This information will be used in the project to develop a detailed manufacturing plan and a Source Approval Request to be submitted to allow a new supplier for the azimuth telescope to be reviewed and approved. Key deliverables for the project include the Technical Data Package and the Source Approval Request which will provide all the technical information required for the Department of Defense to approve a new supplier for the azimuth telescope.
