Physical Sciences Inc., proposes to develop and demonstrate a scale-up process for a desensitized oxidizer ingredient for composite propellants by coating it with targeted compounds that have shown to enhance its thermal stability at low pre-ignition temperatures of composite propellants. In Phase II, we will build on the Phase I success to develop a scalable coating process that is affordable and easy to implement at the industrial scale. We will characterize the efficacy of our coated oxidizer ingredient as a function of quantity and particle size to ensure processing reliability for reliable characterization of its ballistic and insensitive munition (IM) response in a composite propellant. This includes demonstration of is IM compliancy to reducing the output violence induced by thermal and impact threats in an analog solid rocket motor. The coated oxidizer ingredient will allow for a viable ingredient to be incorporated into propellants to meet DoD IM requirements while simultaneously maintaining high performance.
