Boulder, Colorado -- CaliberMRI is honored to announce it has been awarded an Early-Stage Capital and Retention grant through the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) Advanced Industries Accelerator program. This funding will help further quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (qMRI) through the development of biomimetic phantoms for use in breast cancer treatment and therapy monitoring.
"Breast MRI is a valuable tool in breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment monitoring, and CaliberMRI's work to develop biomimetic qMRI phantoms will improve scanner performance and standardization, resulting in more reliable results for improved patient outcomes," said William Hollander, CEO of CaliberMRI.
The Early-Stage Capital and Retention grant supports businesses commercializing innovative and disruptive technologies in the advanced industries that will be created or manufactured in Colorado. These grants help promote the growth and sustainability of advanced industries across the state by driving innovation and commercialization that move this vital part of the Colorado economy forward.
Through the OEDIT grant, CaliberMRI has been awarded $250,000. MRI is the primary imaging modality used to monitor the effect of neoadjuvant breast cancer treatment. However, the absence of breast MRI standardization and traceable quantitative biomarkers can result in ineffective treatment and unnecessary biopsies. CaliberMRI's OEDIT grant will further CaliberMRI's existing development of biomimetic breast tissue phantoms with biomarkers that accurately mimic a healthy or diseased breast tissue type for qMRI scans. Used in conjunction with CaliberMRI's qCal-MR® analysis software, the platform will improve scanner validation and provide patient derived biomarkers for use in cancer treatment.
