Decsribing themselves as Public Benefit Company (PBO), Living Carbon PBC is structured around tackling climate change by genetically enhancing CO2 capture and storage in trees. What are described as "photosynthesis-enhanced hybrid" trees are usefully understood as genetically engineered such as to grow bigger and faster -- which, in turn, supports the tree to take more carbon out of the air. As described by Living Carbon personnel, their photosynthesis enhancement of the tree improves biomass accumulation by some 50+ percent enable a much increased rate of carbon capture. The project involves Living Carbon personnel locating the modified trees (several million seedlings) - planting them - on private land throughout the US in the next couple of years.
