From the outset, Theia Imaging has been structured around making advanced ophthalmic imaging diagnostics accessible to populations for whom - typically - conventional tabletop clinical imaging had been almost entirely ineffective. With the range of human eye disease from: retinopathy of prematurity to diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, as well as inherited retinal diseases involved, beyond simply retinal diagnostics, the firm's advanced imaging technologies also provides non-invasive access to neurological information. The eye may often be referred to as the “window to the brain”: retina and optic nerve head are direct extensions of brain tissue. Thus, the microanatomy and microvascular flow within the eye can also provide valuable information about brain development and brain disease.
