Applaud Medical is structured around development of new methods for treatment of Urinary (kidney) Stones - a medical problem that factors (in the United States alone) to <2,000,000 emergency room visits annually. Currently, treatment of large stones requires anesthesia in an operating room with a less invasive surgical intervention addressing the problem effectively - rendering them stone-free - in only some 50% of patients. The firm's Acoustic Enhancer is designed to accelerate and amplify the fragmentation process - providing faster procedures and better patient outcomes: an innovative kidney stone treatment that - for the first time - could allow urologists effectively to treat 5-15 millimeter stones with a simple outpatient procedure.
